St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church Began as an outreach of Ypsilanti First United Methodist Church in the Fall of 1958. As the Gault Village and Hickory Hill subdivision was being developed in the mid-fifties, the Gault family donated six acres of land to be set aside as the site of the Methodist Church. At present this 56 years young church nestled in the heart of the Gault Village neighborhood has a “come as you are” attitude. There is no need to dress up if you don’t want to; jeans and t-shirts are just fine.
At St. Matt’s we believe that one of the best ways for us to love and serve God is by loving and serving our neighbors. We do this through events and activities designed to bring the neighborhood together and engage in each others lives. There is a richness and diversity to the beliefs of those who attend St. Matt’s which makes it a wonderful place to explore and discover your own faith and beliefs in an environment free from judgment.
Our pastor is Mike Desotell. He and his family joined us in July 2014. His wife Bri is the pastor of Ypsilanti First United Methodist Church. They live in the St. Matt’s parsonage here in Gault Village with their 6 year old daughter, Michaela, 1 year old daughter, Braeleigh, and Grandma Cathy.
